Section of oakwood

Illustrations accompanying a letter describing Antoni van Leeuwenhoek's microscopical observations, dated 12 January 1680. An English extract of the letter was printed in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol 13 (1683), pp. 197-208. The figures show microscopic views of the fibres in a section of oak.
