‘Two-coloured woodwort’
Botanical study of Drymonia serrulata here referred to as the Two-coloured woodwort, Drymonia bicolor. The plant is native to Central and South America. The plate shows flowers and leaves, with a section of ovary.
Plate 4 from Edwards’s botanical register…edited by John Lindley, new series v.1, (London, James Ridgway and Sons, 1838). The plate is inscribed ‘4’ above; and below ‘Miss Drake del. Pub. by J. Ridgway 169 Piccadilly Jan 1 1838. S Watts. Sc.’
In the associated text, the author states that this is: ‘A West Indian plant…the accompanying drawing was made in the hot-house of Mr. Knight, of the King’s Road, in September, 1836.’"
