Gentian beardtongue
Botanical study of the Gentian beardtongue Penstemon gentianoides here referred to as the Gentian-like Pentstemon. The plant is native to Central America. The plate shows flowers and leaves, with a detail of the stamens.
Plate 3 from Edwards’s botanical register…edited by John Lindley, new series v.1, (London, James Ridgway and Sons, 1838). The plate is inscribed ‘3’ above; and below ‘Miss Drake del. Pub. by J. Ridgway 169 Piccadilly Jan 1 1838. S Watts. Sc.’
In the associated text, the author states that the plant is: ‘A native of Mexico, found by Humboldt and Bonpland…Specimens were sent me by Mr. Groom, of Walworth, in September last; the plant had been obtained from Belgium.’"
