Harp seal

Zoological study of a Harp seal pup Pagophilus groenlandicus (here styled Phoca groenlandica). The animal is shown belly-up and apparently asleep, on an ice floe. Plate 18 from the book Reise im Norden Europa's vorzuglich in Island in den Jahren 1820 bis 1821 angestellt, by F.A.L Thienemann and G.B. Gunther, 2 vols., (Leipzig, 1824).
