Zoological studies of three snakes from the south-western United States of America and Mexico, with five details. Figure 1 Rouleau de Botta (Tortrix Bottae), the Northern rubber boa [modern taxonomy Charina bottae]. Figure 2 La Couleuvre porte-chain (Coluber catenifer) the Gopher snake [modern taxonomy [Pituophis catenifer]. Figure 3 La C. infernale (C. infernales) the California red-sided garter snake [modern taxonomy Thamnophis sirtalis infernalis]. Figures 1 A-B, 2 A-B and 3A are details of the head of each reptile. Plate 26 from the monograph "Description de quelques espÞce de reptiles de la Californieà", by H M D de Blainville from Nouvelles Annales du Museum d'Histoire Naturelle, vol. 4 (1835). The plate is inscribed: "Nouv. Annales du Museum 1835. Pl: 26. PrÞtre pinxt. Impr: Lith. De Thierry Freres. Franke delt. 1. Tortrix Bottae. 2. Coluber catenifer. 3. Coluber infernalis." Henri Marie Ducrotay de Blainville (1777-1850), French zoologist and anatomist, was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1832.
