'The White Hawk'
Ornithological study of a white variety of the Grey Goshawk (Accipiter novaehollandiae) a bird native to Australia. Shown in a mountainous landscape, perched on a branch. Plate 35 from Journal of a voyage to New South Wales...by John White (J.Debrett, London, 1790). The accompanying text states that: "This species, in shape and general appearance, seems very nearly allied to the bird called, in England, the Hen-Harrier...the whole plumage is white, without any variegation." The plate is inscribed: "S.Stone Delin. The White Hawke. London Publish'd as the Act directs Dec: 29, 1789, by I.Debrett."
Original: copperplate engraving. 1790
