The 'snow-bird' and the 'broom-rape'
'Passer nivalis', the snow-bird, and 'Orobanche virginiana flore pentapetale cernuo', the broom-rape (Catesby's identifications; modern scientific names: Junco hyemalis, the dark-eyed junco; Monotropa uniflora, the one-flower Indian-pipe). A toadstool, captioned Fungoides capitulo intorto (modern name Geoglossum glabrum, the black adder tongue fungus), is also depicted, but is not mentioned in Catesby's text.
