'The Black Maucauco' [Black lemur]
Zoological study of a Black lemur (Eulemur macaco) from Madagascar. The animal is shown on all fours, one forepaw resting on fruit. Plate 217 from chapter 7 of Gleanings of natural history, exhibiting figures of quadrupeds, birds, insects, plants, &c..., by George Edwards, volume 1 (London, for the author, 1758). The plate is inscribed: "The Black Maucauco from Madagascar. Geo.Edwards Delin. et sculp AD 1756."
