Studies of volcanic ash clouds

Cloud formations associated with volcanic eruptions at Vesuvius. Observations at Mount Vesuvius near the Bay of Naples made by the artist on behalf of Sir William Hamilton. Five sketches showing the shape and general appearance of the clouds, cross-hatched for depth. The drawings are pasted into volume 1 of Piaggio's notebooks for the period 1779-1781.
