Roman and other ancient glass

Ten figures of ancient Roman glass with other specimens from the collections of the British Museum. Plate 3 from the book Curiosities of glass making with details of the processes and productions of ancient and modern ornamental glass manufacture by Apsley Pellatt (David Bogue, London, 1849). Inscribed: "PLATE 3. ANCIENT GLASS. 1.2.3.4. Roman Fragments. 5.6.7.8.9.10. Ancient Fragments in the British Museum. J.R.Jobbins. John Strudwich, del." Michael Faraday FRS (1791-1867) used the Apsley Pellatt & Company's Falcon Works factory to aid in his researches into optical glass during the 1830s. Apsley Pellatt (1791-1863) was an unsuccessful candidate for election to the Royal Society in 1851. He was a British glassware manufacturer in the family company of Pellatt and Green, later renamed Apsley Pellatt & Co. He was MP for Southwark.
