Oval head and shoulders portrait of the scientist in formal evening wear: black coat, waistcoat and tie; white shirt and studs. The sitter has white hair, receding, and side whiskers. Signed lower right "F.Beadell". William Sharpey was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1839.
