Portrait of William Jones (1726-1800)
An amateur portrait entitled: 'The Rev William Jones of Nayland Suffolk 1726-1800'. The subject is seated, presenting his right profile. Jones is shown reading in a panelled room dressed in clerical clothes of black coat, knee breeches and stockings and wig. His back is to a window which has shutters and a raised drape. At his right elbow is a small writing table upon which rests books and an inkwell containing a quill pen. William Jones was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1775.
