In the foreground are (left) a book opened at the plate of a flower labelled "Collinsonia" with specimens of shells; with (right) a plant specimen and scattered volumes labelled "Nat Hist". Inscribed: "PETER COLLINSON. FRS. SAS: ACAD.REG.BEROL: et SVEC.SOC: Aeta: LXXV. J.Miller [active 1769-1825] Sculp:". Peter Collinson was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1728.
