Half length studio portrait of Martin Tupper seated. Tupper wears a light coat over a dark waistcoat, white shirt and bow tie. A watch chain is visible at the waistcoat. His left hand rests on a walking stick; his right hand holds a top hat. Inscribed in pencil lower left "M Farquar Tupper F.R.S." Martin Tupper was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1845.
