Portrait of John Lindsay, 20th Earl of Crawford (1720-1749)
Half length oval portrait of Lindsay in armour and carrying a baton. He wears a fur-trimmed cloak and lace collar and cuffs, his hair ribboned. Above are English and Union flags with laurels at the top of the oval surround. Below are connon and cannon balls with a battle scene within an acanthus leaf border. The oval frame contains the inscription: "JOHN EARL OF CRAWFURD". Inscribed lower left: "T Worlidge fecit. 1753". In pencil: "1732". John Lindsay was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1732.
