Portrait of John Hutton Balfour (1808-1884)
Head and shoulders studio portrait of Balfour wearing a coat, waistcoat and white tie. The sitter has prominent side whiskers and facing slightly to the left as viewed. Printed below the image: "MOFFAT, 103 PRINCES STREET EDINBURGH.". The reverse has a monogram and facsimile signature of Moffat printed in red with the address repeated. Stamped in ink "W.WEDDELL 48, SOUTH BRIDGE EDINBURGH" John Hutton Balfour was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1856.
