Full length studio portrait of Bateman seated with his left elbow resting upon a table upon which can be seen his hat and gloves. The sitter holds a cane in his left hand. Printed below the image: "MAULL & POLYBLANK, LONDON". The reverse has various inscriptions. Printed: "MAULL & POLYBLANK, Photographers, 55 GRACECHURCH STREET, 187a, PICCADILLY, and TAAVISTOCK HOUSE FULHAM ROAD LONDON". John Frederic La Trobe Bateman was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1860.
