Inscribed below: 'Fabroni Pinxt. R.Cooper sculp.' With an excerpt: "...the book of knowledge fair/Presented with an universal blank/Of nature's works, to me expung'd and ras'd/And wisdom at one entrance quite shut out. MILTON." Frontispiece to The narrative of a journey undertaken in... 1819, 1820, & 1821 through France, Italy, Savoy, Switzerland, parts of Germany... Holland, and the Netherlands...by James Holman, 4th ed.(London, 1825). James Holman, known to his contemporaries as 'The Blind Traveller', was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1826.
