Head and shoulders portrait, the sitter looking to the viewer's left, dressed in a wig, dark coat and white neck cloth. Inscribed: "J. Bretherton, f. HENRY HERBERT EARL OF PEMBROKE". In pencil lower left "1743"; lower right "1/-". Henry Herbert was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1743.
