Inscribed below: "ENGRAVED BY H.COOK Copied by permission from an Original Picture in the possession of his Lordship. LONDON. JOHN DOWDING. NEWGATE STREET." With a facsimile signature "Morpeth" Inscribed in pencil lower left: "16 Ap 1862" [?] and "1847". George William Frederick Howard, 7th Earl of Carlisle, was elected Fellow of the Royal Society in 1847.
