Half length portrait of Fordyce wearing a fur trimmed robe and holding in his left hand a volume "Treatise on Fever". Trimmed, original inscription on a separate paper slip: "GEORGE FORDYCE. M:D. F:R:S. Senior Physician of St. Thomas's Hospital." Inscribed in pencil lower left "1776": George Fordyce was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1776.
