His hair and prominent side-whiskers are white with age. Printed below the image: "MAULL & FOX, 187a PICCADILLY, LONDON. The reverse has various inscriptions including the photograph number, "186141". Sir Frederick Augustus Abel was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1860.
