Head and shoulders portrait of Brodie, seated in a red-brown armchair. Dressed in a dark coat and waistcoat with a white shirt and black tie. Body turned slightly to the viewer's right, Brodie looks directly to the viewer. Benjamin Brodie was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1810, he served as its President from 1858 to 1861.
