Portrait of Archibald Billing (1791-1881)
Head and shoulders studio portrait of Archibald Billing, apparently seated with his body half-turned to the left as viewed, but eyes facing to camera. Inscribed below the image: "WILSON & BEADELL Photographers to the Queen", partly obscured by the print. The reverse is variously inscribed: printed "WILSON & BEADELL 69, NEW BOND STREET PHOTOGRAPHERS TO THE QUEEN." A crown motif appears front and back. Archibald Billing was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1844.
Original: albumen print, carte de visite. ca. 1870
