Plate 8 from the paper "On the passage of the ovum from the ovaria to the uterus in women" by Everard Home, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.107 (1817), pp.252-261. The painting is taken from the body of an anonymous 21-year old servant maid who died on 15 January 1817, according to Clift, in a very early stage of pregnancy. The work is inscribed with publication and plate details. Signed lower left "Franz Bauer del:". Royal Society stamp verso. Watermarked "J Whatman 1804".
