The author states that: ‘Faute de Place je ne puis mettre dans cette Estampe, que la petite Ecaille d’un Gougeon a) dont la Grandeur naturelle est b) & la petite Ecaille d’une Tanche c) la vértable Grandeur est réprésentée d)’. [For lack of space I can only put in this print the small scale of a Gudgeon a) therefore its natural size is b) & the small scale of a Tench c) and the true size is represented d)].
Martin Frobene [Frobenius] Ledermuller (1719-1769) German naturalist was employed in various capacities as a notary, turning to microscope studies after an illness induced temporary deafness.
