Interior study of the electrostatic generator and associated conducting machinery designed by John Cuthbertson (bap.1743-d.1821) for Martin van Marum.and installed at Teyler's Museum at Haarlem in the Netherlands. The arrangement is shown within a panelled room (presumably at the Teyler's Museum) with a spark being generated. Plate 1 from Beschryving eene ongemeen groote electrizeer-machine geplaatst in Teyler's Museum...by Martinus van Marum (Haarlemn, 1785). The plate is inscribed below with artist's and engraver's names, the former trimmed and almost illegible: "W. Hendriks delin. B. de Bakker fecit." Martin van Marum was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1798.
