'Dog of New South Wales'
Zoological study of the Dingo (Canis lupus dingo), the Australian wild dog. Plate 57 from Journal of a voyage to New South Wales...by John White (J.Debrett, London, 1790). The accompanying text states that: "This animal is a variety of the Dog, and, like the shepherd's dog in most countries, approaches near to the original of the species, which is the wolf...It is capable of barking, although not so readily as the European dogs; is very ill-natured and vicious..." The plate is inscribed: "Mortimer delin, Dog of New South Wales. London Published as the Act directs Dec: 29, 1789, by I.Debrett."
