Plate 12 figures 1-6 from the paper "On the structure of the crystalline lens in fishes and quadrupeds, as ascertained by its action on polarised light", by David Brewster, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.106 (1816), pp.311-317. Brewster compares the structures displayed by a fish eye lens with those of a sphere of crown glass (figure 5). The paintings are inscribed above with publication and plate details. Not signed. Royal Society stamp verso. Watermarked "Ruse & Turners 1813."
