'Cercocebus fuliginosus' [White-eyelid mangabey]

Zoological study of a white-eyelid mangabey, a variety of the genus Cercocebus and a native of Africa Shown standing upright with one arm extended. This specimen was a female and drawn from life "lately exhibited by Mr. Wombwell in Edinburgh...she performed many of the attitudes of the most experienced Harlequins." Plate 12 from The natural history of monkeys, by Sir William Jardine (Edinburgh, 1833) The Naturalist's Library. Mammalia. Vol.1. Referred to in the text as "The Mangabey or White Eyelid Monkey". The plate is inscribed: "PLATE 12. CERCOCEBUS FULIGINOSUS. Lizars sc."
