'Calx carbonata'
Specimen of calcium carbonate crystals, here termed 'crystallized carbonate of lime', including two figures showing variations in the crystalline form. Plate 33 from British mineralogy: or coloured figures intended to elucidate the mineralogy of Great Britain, by James Sowerby, volume 1 (London, R.Taylor & Co., 1804). The accompanying text states that "This form or variety of crystallization of carbonate of lime is perhaps one of the most common, and has obtained the name of Dog's tooth spar in England..." The plate is inscribed: "July 1 1803. Published by Jas. Sowerby, London."
