'Calx carbonata'
Three specimens of calcium carbonate crystals, here termed 'crystallized carbonate of lime', including (lower figure) "a rare fragment of a fine yellow". Showing the optical properties of each of the minerals. Plate 2 from British mineralogy: or coloured figures intended to elucidate the mineralogy of Great Britain, by James Sowerby, volume 1 (London, R.Taylor & Co., 1804). The accompanying text states that the mineral is "Found chiefly in lime-stone rocks wherever they occur in Great Britain, as Derbyshire, some parts of Wales, Wiltshire, Devonshire, &c." The plate is inscribed: "Novr. 1 1802. Published by Jas. Sowerby, London."
