Butterfly wings and mould

Two nature studies. Figure 1 (top) shows an unidentified butterfly with variations in wing colour, and structural details shown by microscope. Figure 2 (bottom) shows a jar within which is a dead fly with a surrounding floating mass of mould, again with details shown under magnification.

Martin Frobene [Frobenius] Ledermuller (1719-1769) German naturalist was employed in various capacities as a notary, turning to microscope studies after an illness induced temporary deafness.
