Brabant lace and spider silk
Two studies of man-made and natural fibres under magnification. Figure 1 (top) shows lace from Brabant in Belgium, viewed by microscope, with a circled inset figure, showing the material at natural size. Figure 2 shows a portion of a spider’s web.

Martin Frobene [Frobenius] Ledermuller (1719-1769) German naturalist was employed in various capacities as a notary, turning to microscope studies after an illness induced temporary deafness.
