Miners' safety lamp

Plate 15 from the paper "On the means of procuring a steady light in coal mines without the danger of explosion", by William Reid Clanny, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.103 (1813), pp.200-205. Three figures showing an arrangement for keeping a candle flame alight in coal mines without the risk of fire damp explosion. The work is inscribed above with publication and plate details. Signed "I. Farey delin" {John Farey junior (1791-1851)?]. Royal Society stamp verso.
