The expedition party passing through Point Lata on the frozen Coppermine River towards the open sea. Scene depicts expedition members carrying kayaks and dogs drawing sleds. John Franklin's expedition of 1819-22 travelled via the Coppermine River to map the Canadian Arctic coast, as part of efforts to find the fabled North-West Passage.
