Landscape view, showing a 19th century gentleman field geologist in outdoor clothing, seated while writing or drawing in a notebook. Inscribed below: " Lime-Kiln, & Chalk Pit near Wells, Norfolk with oblique ascending veins of thin Flint. also horizontal layers of tabular flint. Drawn by G.J.Rose." The drawing is signed, lower right "G.J.Rose". Not dated. From papers of the naturalist and geologist Caleb Burrell Rose (1790-1872).
