'Cuprum oxygenizatum'
Two specimens of cuprite, red copper oxide, here termed 'Cubical red oxide of copper'. Plate 100 from British mineralogy: or coloured figures intended to elucidate the mineralogy of Great Britain, by James Sowerby, volume 1 (London, R.Taylor & Co., 1804). The accompanying text states that "Good cubical crystallizations of Red Oxide of Copper are much rarer than octaedrons...This specimen came from near Redruth in Cornwall. " The plate is inscribed: "Novr. 1 1804. Published by Jas. Sowerby, London."
