Fossilised Ichthyosaur paddle and scapula

Plate 15 figure 1 from the paper "Some farther account of the fossil remains of an animal, of which a description was given to the Society in 1814", by Everard Home, Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society, vol.106 (1816), pp.318-321. The painting is annotated lower left: "Scale. Half an inch to an inch. The bones of the Paw a dull black, or brown. Ribs bluish black. The Clay slate colour." Additionally, in pencil: "To be reduced to 3/4 of an inch to an inch." The fossil was in the possession of William Buckland and collected by Mary Anning. Royal Society stamp verso.
