Full-length studio portrait of James Scott Bowerbank seated with his body turned to the left as viewed, the sitter facing to camera. Bowerbank is posed at an ornate writing desk with his right arm resting against an opened book. Printed below the image: "MAULL & Co. LONDON". The reverse is variously inscribed: printed "MAULL & Co. PHOTOGRAPHERS. 187A PICCADILLY W. 82 CHEAPSIDE EC. TAVISTOCK HOUSE, FULHAM ROAD. LONDON." Below, the negative number: "37705". James Scott Bowerbank was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1842.
