Portrait of George Back (1796-18780
Full-length portrait of Back in an apparently domestic setting, standing before a fireplace over which are sculptures and an oval mirror. Back faces the left as viewed, not quite in profile. He stands on patterned rugs with a chair and table in front of him: his right hand on the chair-back, the left arm held behind his back. The reverse has various inscriptions. Printed: "Maull & Polyblank, Photographers, 55 GRACECHURCH STREET, and 187A, PICCADILLY LONDON." Sir George Back was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1847.
