Several collections, including the Royal Academy and National Portrait Gallery (NPG Ax9207) have carte-de-visite details from this larger image, with the photographer's identifying name credit. In pencil lower left: "1849"; and lower right "Sir Chas Barry". Inscribed verso in ink: "BARRY, SIR CHARLES F.R.S. (1849)". Sir Charles Barry was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1849.
