Full length studio portrait of William Henry Barlow seated at a writing desk, his right hand resting on an open book. Barlow wears a dark frock coat over a lighter waistcoat and trousers. Printed below the image: "MAULL & POLYBLANK, LONDON". The reverse has various inscriptions. Printed: "Maull & Polyblank, Photographers, 55 GRACECHURCH STREET, and 187A, PICCADILLY LONDON." There is a negative number in ink: "31163". William Henry Barlow was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1850.
