Head and shoulders portrait of Russell looking to the right as viewed and wearing holly leaves in his lapel. Oval within a printed decorative border. Printed inscription: "JOHN SCOTT RUSSELL. Lock and Whitfield. Woodbury Process". With an original printed sheet containing a brief biography of the subject. John Scott Russell was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1838.
