‘Thick leaved pentstemon’
Botanical study of a variety of Penstemon, here referred to as the Thick leaved Pentstemon Pentstemon crassifolius The plant is native to North America. The plate shows flowers and leaves, with a detail of the stamens.
Plate 16 from Edwards’s botanical register…edited by John Lindley, new series v.1, (London, James Ridgway and Sons, 1838). The plate is inscribed ‘16’ above; and below ‘Miss Drake del. Pub by J. Ridgway, 169 Piccadilly March 1 1838. S. Watts sc.’
In the associated text, the author states that this plant was: ‘A native of the North West coast of North America, whence seeds were sent by the late Mr. Douglas to the Horticultural Society of London, in whose garden it was figured in June last.’"
