Full length studio portrait of George Bentham looking to the left as viewed. Bentham's left hand holds a chair back: hat and gloves rest upon the seat. A small table is visible to the left of picture and there is a curtain or drape in the right-hand background. Inscribed below the image: "MAULL & Co. LONDON". The reverse is variously inscribed: printed "MAULL & Co. Photographers, 55, GRACECHURCH STREET, 187a PICCADILLY and TAVISTOCK HOUSE, FULHAM ROAD. LONDON." George Bentham was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1862.
