'Turtur minimus guttatus', the ground-dove, with the leaves and flowers of 'Zanthoxylum spinosum', the pellitory or tooth-ach tree (Catesby's identifications; modern scientific names: Columbina passerina, the common ground-dove; Zanthoxylum clava-herculis, the toothache tree, Hercules' club, pepperwood or southern prickly ash). Plate 26 from volume I of The natural history of Carolina, Florida and the Bahama Islands, by Mark Catesby (London, 1731). Mark Catesby was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1733.
