'Testudo ferox' [Florida softshell turtle]

Zoological studies of the Florida softshell turtle Apalone ferox. The freshwater turtle is shown in three figures: two showing the upper and lower body and a third showing the neck in its elongated position. Plate 19 from the book Historia testudinum iconibus illustrata by Johann David Schoepff (Erlangen, 1792). The illustration is inscribed below: "Testudo ferox Pennant." The plate has been trimmed for binding, resulting in the loss of artist information.
