'Red earshell' [Blacklip abalone]
Marine zoological study of the shell Haliotis rubra native to Australian waters. Plate 23 from The zoological miscellany; being a description of new, or interesting animals, by William Elford Leach, volume 1 (London, 1815). The author notes that the mollusc "Inhabits New Holland." The plate is inscribed: "Drawn Engraved & Published by R. P. Nodder Tavistock St. London." William Elford Leach (1790-1836) British naturalist was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1816.
