Père David's deer
Zoological study of Père David's deer Elaphurus davidianus, a species native to China. The illustration shows the male (figure 1) female (figure 2) and a juvenile (figure 3). The deer became known in Western Europe from these specimens sent to Paris by Father Armand David (1826-1900) French Catholic priest, missionary and naturalist.
